This week I am sharing a quote from Todd Wagner, a senior pastor at Watermark Community church in Dallas, Texas. He says,

"Worrying is believing God won't get it right." -Todd Wagner

Interestingly enough I have this quote pinned on my refrigerator at home, and when I was putting something away earlier the quote fell right off and into my hands. I took one look, read it, and thought, "Wow, how fitting." It is crazy how relevant this quote is, especially during the time that we are currently facing with the COVID-19.

Growing up I can always remember my grandmother on my mom’s side and how she would always worry…about everything. She even had this little rock called the “worry stone” that you were supposed to rub when you were worried or anxious. Still to this day, not really much has changed for grams in regard to worrying. Although, my grandmother, mom, and I have done countless Bible plans on the Bible app together about worrying. I can tell that she has gotten better with worrying and has put more of her faith in Jesus Christ, but still struggles from time to time, as well all do.

One devotional made a great point in stating, "it's often through worship that we discover the cure for our worry." Like I have mentioned in previous posts, worship music is very uplifting and focuses on praising Jesus as well. "When we focus on who our God is, our perspective eventually shifts-even if our situation doesn't."

Unfortunately, worrying had become a trait that I developed in my life as well and it was very bad a few years ago. I would constantly worry about what is going to happen next, the future, my plans, etc. This had caused me to fall into a downward spiral of constantly feeling anxious and wondering what would happen tomorrow, that it would cause me to lose focus and appreciate the day that God has given me today.

In the Gospel of Matthew 6:25-34 the section is titled, “Do Not Worry.” Verse 27 raises a very important question that says, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Later on verse 33 and 34 go on to say, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

So basically we are not to worry about what is going to happen next, because much like Todd says in his quote, if we worry, then we are essentially questioning and doubting God. And we are to be focusing on God’s will for our lives and how we are to bring the utmost glory and honor to Him and not to ourselves.
