Blog Post 4: Trends within the Christian Community

This post features some popular trends within in the christian community.

There are a variety of trends that have become very popular and offer a way for people to connect through fellowship including: college ministries, small groups, worship music, etc. that showcase the importance of gathering together within a Christian community.

College Ministry

The Akron Chapel and the University of Akron offer multiple opportunities to get involved in a Christian community through different ministries. There is a college ministry called Campus Focus through The Chapel that is held every Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. This is an organization that welcomes college students of any age and of any belief or practice, where students can worship, listen to a weekly sermon, and gather in fellowship together. This provides a great opportunity to build a community with other believers and not only learn more about God’s word, but also grow together.

Small Groups

Small groups through Campus Focus are also a way for college students to gather together and grow their faith in a community. Weekly meetings are held in various locations on and off campus where students are led by small group leaders. Here students have an opportunity to dive deeper into the word, pray together, as well as discuss with their leaders where they are in their walk, or even just build friendships within the community.

Delight

Delight is a popular women’s ministry that is nationwide, founded by two college women from Belmont University named Mac and Kenz. The mission of Delight is to, “invite college women into Christ-centered community that fosters vulnerability and transforms stories.” The University of Akron has a Delight chapter that meets every Friday at the Student Union at 2:00 p.m. where girls are invited to share their personal stories and see how God continues to write theirs as well.

Worship Music

Another popular trend is today’s world is music, but one genre that is significant within this community is specifically worship music. Worship music is so powerful, whether there is a large praise band singing on stage, or if you are just alone listening on the radio. Worship music is a time to not just sing at the top of your lungs, but to also sit in silence just listening and taking time to reflect. Some popular trending songs right now include music from bands and artists such as Elevation Worship, Casting Crowns, Mercyme Hillsong, Bethel Music, For KING & COUNTRY, and so many more.

Personally I have grown and matured so much spiritually within these communities. I am very involved with Campus Focus, my small group, and Delight. I also find myself listening to worship music constantly, where it gives me a chance to praise God and bring Him all of the glory.
